About Me

Hi! I'm Becca Fitzpatrick, the author of the internationally bestselling HUSH, HUSH saga. When not writing, I'm most likely running, prowling sale racks for shoes (stilettos, please!), or enjoying one of life's many little indulgences: Ice cream, Veronica Mars, losing myself in a book, painting my toenails, or simply daydreaming. I do my best to update this blog as frequently as possible with news on upcoming events, tips for writers, and all things pertaining to my books.

Summer Reads

This just might be the shortest blog I ever write. Several of you have asked for book recommendations (What should I read next?!?) and I wanted to let you know I blogged over at the Cabinet of Curiosities today about some of my favorite reads. If you're looking for a good story to read this summer, check it out!

SILENCE Tour

Hey guys!

Great news. My publicist has been hard at work scheduling my SILENCE tour, happening this October, and things are beginning to come together. I am getting really excited for this tour, for the opportunity to meet so many of you, answer your questions, sign your books, and all the other awesome stuff that goes with touring. I'll also be on the road with a few other YA authors, and I can't wait to meet them and kick off some fantastic events with them. More details on the identities of my tour-mates coming soon.

Right now, I've been given the green light to announce the following events. Keep in mind this list will continue to grow over the next couple months as more events/locations are confirmed. My publicist has hinted at several other locations across the country, and once things are set in stone, I'll come back and add them to this list. But here's what I have so far!

More Vlogging

Hey guys! Happy weekend. Am I the only one excited that BURN NOTICE is finally back on TV?!? I love Michael Westen. Sigh :)

In this vlog I answer the following questions:

1. Where did you get Patch's personality?

2. Will there be ARCs of SILENCE?

3. What are some of your favorite books?

Enjoy!

My Attempt at Vlogging

The title of this post pretty much sums it up. This is a vlog. By me! I warned you that I might vlog answers to some of the questions you asked in my last post, and I'm here to fulfill that threat, ha! Also, in the vlog I start out by saying I'll be answering a few of your questions, but a few quickly got trimmed to one (that cuts off abruptly). Two Clone Troopers burst into my study while I was filming and attacked me with Nerf guns. True story.

So here you go! I talk about how I came up with my books' titles.

Friday, Friday

First, a little housekeeping. The Silence Jacket contest is now closed, the winners have been notified, and prizes are in the mail! Thanks to everyone who entered. I have a couple of jackets left, but they are special edition and I'm not allowed to reveal them yet. Once I am, I'll do a contest to give them away. I wish everyone could win, but the good news is, on October 4, everyone will have access to a copy of the SILENCE cover. That's less than four months from now, wow!

Also, thanks so much to everyone who came to the WriteOnCon chat this past Tuesday. Lots of great questions, and I did my best to answer as many as I possibly could in the time given. If you didn't get a chance to stop by, and want to read the transcript, it's up on www.WriteOnCon.com

Now for the real purpose of this post. I try to swing by my Facebook fan page and my Twitter account at least once a day, but I don't usually get a chance to answer all of the questions waiting for me in both places. I also get quite a bunch of questions through email and snail mail. I thought it might be a good idea (not to mention efficient!) to start answering one or two of these questions here on my blog each week. Here's where you come in. If you have a question you've been dying to ask me, go ahead and leave it in the comments. The questions can be anything: about my books, about the writing process, what I do in my spare time, my favorite vacation spots...you get the idea. I'll create a queue of questions and pick and choose from it weekly. And if I get really organized, I may even vlog my answers. Although that worries me a little, since I'll feel obligated to wear something other than a T-shirt and a ponytail, ha!

So...ask away!

SILENCE Jackets!

UPDATE: Contest is now closed!

Happy Friday indeed! I just went out to get the mail, and lo and behold, SILENCE jackets from the UK were waiting for me. They are so very shiny! Simply breathtaking. Here's proof:

I also have my US jackets, which are printed on the same iridescent paper used on both the HUSH, HUSH and CRESCENDO covers. The three look so gorgeous lined up together!

Would you like to have these covers before anyone else? I will even sign them! And personalize them! And because I love you guys so much, I'll even throw in a signed CRESCENDO locker poster. To enter, simply leave a comment below with an email address (to contact you, should you win). I will draw one winner before midnight on Sunday.

Have a great weekend!!

SILENCE Contest Winners!

Hey there -

First off, before I announce the winners of the Name-This-Character contest, I want to say again how fun (and stressful, but in a good way!) this contest was for me. So many creative names were submitted by YOU, and I mentioned more than once on Twitter just how difficult it was for me to narrow it down to one name. I've never been a very decisive person, so trust me, selecting a winner was excruciatingly difficult. I wish I could have somehow picked every entry as the winning entry, but obviously that just wasn't possible. However...I did pick two winners. Yikes! That was unexpected. But good, right? :)

I won't make you wait any longer. The winning character names are...drumroll...

Dante Matterazzi, submitted by Dayana M.

and

Tono Grantham, submitted by Valentine B.

Congrats to the winners, and thanks for helping me christen these two characters!

Thank you again for being such great fans. You guys have been so supportive from the beginning, and so fun to write for. Hopefully I'll have another contest like this in the future. More opportunities for me to be decisive, right?

Copyedits are DONE!

Hey guys -

I realize I've been missing from the online scene lately, but I'm here to announce that I've come out of the writing cave. Copyedits are done! For those of you who are curious, copyedits are one of the final rounds of editing a manuscript goes through before it is sent on to be published. During copyedits, an author fixes grammatical mistakes, diction (word choice) and often, in my case, I fix chronology problems. I've never written a novel that didn't have major chronology problems. Apparently time is not my strong point! Luckily for me, I have an incredible copyeditor who catches all these little mistakes that could have a big impact on the story. Copyedits are always the hardest part of the process for me (they always come at the end, and by the end, I'm exhausted), but I know that when I send the story back to my editor, it's in the best shape of its life. And that's a good feeling.

While I'm on the topic of writing, I want to share a link to Kirsten Hubbard's blog where she talks about the challenges of debuting as a midlist author. Her post touched my heart, and if you're an aspiring author, or if you want to know more about what publishing can feel like for a debut author, I highly suggest you read it.

Finally...NEWS. The moment you've all been waiting for! I will be announcing the winner of the SILENCE character-naming contest right here on my blog tomorrow. Stay tuned :)

Pick a Name for the Assistant

Hey guys!!  It's Becca's Assistant, Jenn, here.   I am going to be starting a Twitter Account so that I can stay in touch with all of you, answer your questions and maybe even give you some behind the scenes updates on what's happening in Camp Fitzpatrick.

So here's where you come in... Becca and I have been trying to think of a good twitter name for me and we are hitting a wall!  Do you guys have any suggestions?  It can be simple and to the point or a little more fun. But it should be something that you will see and recognize.  Please post your suggestions in the comments and I'll let you know this weekend what name we decide to use!!

Thanks in advance, because I know how much you all rock!!

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for all of the great suggestions here and on facebook & twitter!  We had a really hard time picking, but we decided to go with... @PatchsOtherGirl (Thanks Cassidy for the suggestion)  Hope you will all come on over and follow me on Twitter
